Kerry Town Bell Tower Artist Statement: There's nothing more iconic in downtown Ann Arbor than the Kerry Town Bell Tower. I knew I wanted to photograph the bell tower even if half the class was already photographing it, because it's just so iconic. I named the one taken at an angle "Tick Tock" because every hour, on the hour, the tower rings a short sweet song. I named the blueprint one "Clock Planning" because it's a clock tower and blueprints are used to plan stuff.
Hill Auditorium Artist Statement: As my dad and I were walking downtown, we walked by Hill Auditorium and I knew I had to take pictures of it because I have so many memories from various field trips and events there. There was a parent with a kid there so I had to get pretty creative with the framing so I didn't get them in the picture. I named the first one "Middle School Memories" because looking at the picture just brings back so many memories, mostly from middle school. The other one is called "Hill" because that's what I always refer to it as, hill.
Nickels Arcade Artist Statement: Like Hill Auditorium, there were people everywhere as well as posters and signs for business at Nickels Arcade, which led me to being creative with my angles. I took mostly pictures of the roof and walls above buildings because of this. While editing the first picture, I was adjusting the vibrance because there wasn't a ton of color, and noticed that it brought out the pale blue in the sky. I loved this effect and amplified it to really bring it out. The other one gives the best view of Nickels and I named it Arcade Underpass because it's like a underpass to the road on the other side.
First Unitarian Church Artist Statement: This was the first place I took pictures of, my dad recommended it to me. It was hard to find angles that didn't include much else than the church. One of them had some other buildings and a tree in the background so I blurred the background and then changed it black and white, as well as brought out the vibrance and brightness in the church so it would stand out. I really like how it turned out.
Kelsey Museum of Archeology Artist Statement: This was the last place I photographed, I had most of my pictures and just needed one more place when my dad and I walked past this place and I remembered it from a field trip in 6th grade. I took some pictures of it, but again, it was difficult to get angles without many trees or other buildings. The first one is named "Three Towers" because you can see tower-like structures on the building in the image. The other is called "Archeology Architecture" because it's an archeology museum and this is the architecture unit, and it's a blue print which is more associated with architecture and I thought it was a fun play on words.
