Cats Artist Statement: On my wall I have shadow boxes that have some little things I’ve made and a collection of small glass animals that were my moms. There’s a bunch of different animals in the collection but I chose three cats for my still life. I brought them to where I was taking my pictures and started messing around with them. I really liked how it looked like the blue sweater one looks like it’s petting then one without a sweater, so I used that for some of the pictures.
Juggling Balls Artist Statement: My mom was a clown in college and is really good at juggling. She taught me a few years ago, but I never entirely picked it up. I have my own set of fleece beanbags though that she made me. I used them for a still life because it's an easy set of three things that I had. I played around with organizing them until I found some positions that I was happy with. I wanted to make one where the one ball was in the air, like juggling, but I couldn't figure out how to make that work.
Fairy Houses Artist Statement: When I was thinking of another still life I could take pictures of, I thought of the shoe box filled with fairy house decorations that’s in my closet. I took out the house and the food basket, and took a few pictures before adding the blocks and wagon, princess/unicorn/hedgehog, bucket, and fairy girl holding the cat.
Colored Pencils Artist Statement: I really like drawing, so I used my colored pencils and played around with putting them in different places and arranged them differently. I originally picked out the rainbow, but then realized that's only 6 colors and so added pink to make it odd. I really like the ones with the colored pencils in a row instead of meeting at one point because the color is all next to each other which I think looks nice, which is why I took two like that.
Flowers Artist Statement: My mom has a box of decorations for our fireplace, and let me look through it for still life ideas. I used the flowers because it's a very typical still life and my other still lives had been less typical. It was hard to find a way to use the flowers and have an odd number of objects for my still life, but I was able to hide flowers that gave the piece an even number. I really like the neon glow filter because it gives it almost a monotone effect with a glowing aspect.
