Layers of Me
Artist Statement: This piece uses a bunch of different photos about things that are important to me layered on top of each other with different opacities. The background image that is behind my selfie is a small stuffed bear I have named Lincoln who I got on my middle school class trip to Chicago in 2019. I erased parts of the other three images to highlight her body, but using a not 100% opaque eraser brush you can still see a more translucent area of the three objects. There is also a notebook, which is my journal. I started my first journal around the start of 8th grade, and it was the first journal I ever finished, and shortly after that I started the grey one with a pen on it that is shown in the image. On the left side is my guitar, I've wanted to play guitar since I was 10 or 11 and started lessons when I was 13. I've been playing for about 3 years now, and love the guitar. I've improved drastically during quarantine especially in skills like singing along and reading tab. The last photo is a book, School of Charm by Lisa Ann Scott. My grandpa is an author and in one of his writing groups he got an uncorrected proof signed copy of the book. He gave it to me for my birthday and I've read it at least 5 times. It's one of my favorite books.
